Ways to pay
One usage-based model, three ways to pay for it
Every account meters the same resources at the same rates. What changes is how you settle up — a prepaid balance, a monthly invoice, or a committed-use agreement.

What you pay for
You are billed for three things, and only when you use them
There is no fixed subscription underneath. Everything on your bill is metered consumption of one of these three resources.
AI model usage
Metered per token — input and output counted separately — at each model's own rate. Use Insulin's models, or bring your own provider keys and pay only a small platform fee on that usage.
Sandbox compute
Agents that run code get a secure sandbox, metered by processor, memory, and disk while it runs. Disk keeps accruing while a sandbox is paused, until you delete it.
Storage
Both the files your agents and knowledge bases keep and the SQL databases behind your apps, metered on the month's peak usage — so a single day's spike doesn't set the whole bill.
For AI models, you choose how you pay
Use the models Insulin hosts and pay one metered rate, or bring your own provider keys and pay only a flat platform fee. Sandboxes and storage are billed the same way whichever you pick.
Use Insulin's models
metered per token
Insulin hosts the models and bills you per token — no API keys and no separate provider account. Each model's rate is shown in the console before you run it.
- No API keys to manage
- One consolidated bill from Insulin
- Every hosted model available immediately
Connect your own provider
flat platform fee — input and output
Your model provider bills you directly at their own rates. Insulin adds only a flat fee of $0.10 per million tokens, the same whichever model you run.
- Pay your provider's rates directly
- Keep your own committed-use discounts
- The same flat fee on every model
Rates track the underlying model, sandbox, and storage providers, and the exact price applied to your account is always visible in the console. Consumption by Insulin's own background features is on us — you are billed only for the work you run. See exactly what's metered.
Spend controls
Usage-based, without the runaway bill
Consumption pricing is only comfortable if you can see and cap it. Insulin gives every organization a live balance and hard controls, so spend stays a decision you make.
A live balance
Your balance updates within about a minute of use, in both the console and the API — so month-end is never a surprise.
Spend limits you set
Cap what an organization can spend in a month. When the limit is reached, consumption and any auto-refill stop — whatever the remaining balance.
It pauses, it doesn't break
On pay as you go, AI requests pause at a zero balance and resume the instant you add credit. Stored files and running sandboxes are never deleted to collect a bill.
Alerts before you run low
Admins are notified before the balance is exhausted, and again when it reaches zero — so a top-up is a decision, not a scramble.
Set spending limits and automatic top-ups, and see exactly when AI pauses, in the billing docs.

Insulin is the AI workspace built into the Suger console. Usage on AI agents, scheduled jobs, and knowledge bases all draws from the same balance.
Selling your own software through cloud marketplaces? That runs on the Suger platform, which is priced separately.
Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions about Insulin pricing and billing
How does Insulin pricing work? +
Insulin is usage-based. You pay only for what you use, metered across three things — AI model tokens, sandbox compute, and storage. There are no seats and no platform fee, and every organization gets $100 in free credit each month.
Is there a free tier? +
Every organization gets $100 in credit every month, and it resets each month. You can build agents, run jobs, and test within it before you pay anything — no payment method is required to use it.
What am I billed for? +
Three metered resources: AI model usage (input and output tokens), sandbox runtime (processor, memory, and disk), and storage — both files and SQL databases, billed on the month's peak. Each is metered as you use it and shown in your live balance.
What is the difference between pay as you go and monthly billing? +
Pay as you go draws down a prepaid balance and can auto-refill. Monthly billing sends one invoice at month-end for everything you used. Most teams start pay as you go; talk to us to move to monthly billing.
Can I use my own model API keys? +
Yes. Bring your own provider keys and your provider bills you directly, while Insulin charges only a flat platform fee of $0.10 per million tokens — input and output — instead of the model's full metered rate.
What happens if I run out of credit? +
On pay as you go, AI requests pause when your balance reaches zero and resume automatically the moment you add credit. Your stored files and running sandboxes are never deleted for billing reasons.
Can I set a spending limit? +
Yes. Set a monthly spend limit and Insulin halts consumption — and any auto-refill — once it is reached, regardless of remaining balance. Admins are alerted before the balance runs low.
Do my purchased credits expire? +
Purchased credit stays valid for three years. The free monthly credit is the exception: it resets at the end of each month rather than carrying over.
